I’d like to…

What Is LASIK

LASIK permanently reshapes your cornea with a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism — offering life-changing visual freedom in an outpatient procedure that takes just 15 minutes per eye.

At Horizon Eye Care, we have been performing laser vision correction since 1993 and LASIK since 1997, giving us over 25 years of experience helping Charlotte patients achieve the clear, stable vision they’ve always wanted.

Am I a Candidate?

Ideal candidates are ages 21–60 with a stable prescription for at least one year and good overall eye health. Most patients who wear glasses or contacts qualify — your free consultation will confirm candidacy.

You may not be a candidate if you have severe dry eye, thin corneas, or certain corneal conditions. Our thorough pre-operative evaluation includes dry eye testing, corneal mapping, and a complete refraction to ensure safe, optimal outcomes.

Our Technology

We use the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser with topography-guided Contoura® Vision, tracking your eye 1,050 times per second for precise, personalized correction that often achieves vision better than 20/20.

Our femtosecond laser creates the corneal flap blade-free, enhancing safety and predictability. The result is a fully customized procedure mapped to your cornea’s unique characteristics for maximum clarity and comfort.

Recovery & Results

Most patients notice dramatically improved vision within 24 hours. With our Weekend LASIK™ program, you can have surgery Friday and return to work Monday with clear, stable sight — minimal downtime required.

Expect mild irritation for 6–12 hours after surgery, similar to wearing dirty contact lenses. Most patients can drive the day after their post-operative eye exam. All follow-up visits at 1 day, 2 weeks, 3 months, and 12 months are included.

LASIK FAQs

How much does LASIK cost?

We offer competitive pricing with affordable monthly payment options, including no-interest plans for up to 12 months. Your free consultation will include a personalized quote based on your specific needs and the technology used.

Does LASIK hurt?

The procedure itself is comfortable thanks to numbing drops. Most patients experience 6–12 hours of mild irritation afterward — similar to wearing dirty contact lenses — typically managed with one dose of an over-the-counter pain reliever.

How soon can I return to normal activities after LASIK?

Most patients can drive the day after their post-operative exam and return to work within 1–2 days. You'll need to avoid rubbing your eyes for a week and wear protective eye shields while sleeping during the initial recovery period.

Will I still need reading glasses after LASIK?

If you're under 40, LASIK typically provides excellent vision at all distances. Patients over 40 may still need reading glasses due to presbyopia. Monovision LASIK is an option that can reduce dependence on reading glasses for eligible patients.

What if my vision changes after LASIK?

While most patients enjoy stable results for decades, about 1–2% may experience natural vision changes over 5–10 years that could benefit from an enhancement procedure. We monitor your vision over time to ensure long-term results.

Am I too old for LASIK?

While the typical age range is 21–60, we can perform LASIK at almost any age if you are a good candidate based on eye health and vision stability. We'll evaluate your individual situation comprehensively during your free consultation.
