Education & Training
Dr. Syracuse earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hofstra University and his Master of Science in Cancer Biology from Roswell Park Cancer Institute before completing his Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Maryland Hospital and his Ophthalmology Residency at SUNY Buffalo.
He received additional training at the United States Army School of Aviation Medicine at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he developed the skills to serve as a U.S. Army National Guard Flight Surgeon, achieving the rank of Captain. He also completed graduate business education at Wake Forest University School of Business Administration.
Memberships & Recognition
Dr. Syracuse is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the North Carolina Eye Society, and the North Carolina Medical Society.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Syracuse has served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Novant Health and as a founding member of the Wake Forest MD/MBA Society. A former U.S. Army National Guard Flight Surgeon who achieved the rank of Captain, he brings the same discipline and dedication to his civilian practice. He also serves on the Horizon Eye Care Board of Directors, helping to guide the organization’s commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care.
