Dr. Harold Cameron has been caring for patients for more than four decades, combining extensive clinical experience with a compassionate, patient-first approach. A fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, he specializes in general ophthalmology, dry eye treatment, and neuro-ophthalmology, with a commitment to ensuring every patient understands their condition and their options.
Before entering ophthalmology, Dr. Cameron practiced family and emergency medicine and served as a commissioned officer in the National Health Service Corps. This broad medical background gives him a unique perspective that treats not just the eyes, but the patient’s overall well-being.

Dr. Harold Cameron is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with more than 40 years of clinical experience. His practice spans general eye care, dry eye treatment, and specialized neuro-ophthalmology, underpinned by a broader medical background that informs a uniquely whole-patient approach.

Education & Training
Dr. Cameron earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and his Doctor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his rotating internship at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, followed by his ophthalmology residency at the University of Western Ontario, and then a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
Before focusing on ophthalmology, Dr. Cameron practiced family and emergency medicine for four years and served as a commissioned officer in the National Health Service Corps. He was board certified in ophthalmology in 1979 and spent over 30 years practicing at Coastal Eye Clinic in New Bern, NC before joining Horizon Eye Care.
Memberships & Recognition
Dr. Cameron is a Lifetime Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. His career reflects decades of dedication to both his patients and the broader community, including volunteer medical mission work in Haiti, where he performed over 30 cataract surgeries in just four days.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Cameron and his wife Carole have two sons and a grandson in Charlotte. He enjoys traveling, golf, wood carving, and music, bringing the same care and attention to his personal interests that he brings to his patients.
