Dr. Shivani Mahendar brings comprehensive routine and medical eye care to patients of all ages at Horizon Eye Care’s Cotswold and Mallard Creek locations. She provides thorough eye exams, vision correction, and contact lens fittings, including specialty lenses. She also offers myopia management for children and teens, dry eye treatment with advanced options like LipiFlow, and ongoing care for conditions including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration.

Having worn overnight contact lenses for myopia management as a child, she knows firsthand how much great eye care can change a patient’s life. With nearly a decade in eye care and a background as an EMT, she brings a calm, reassuring presence to every visit.

Education & Training
Dr. Mahendar earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2026. There she was a Presidential Endowed Scholar and served as a teaching assistant. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, with a major in Biostatistics and a minor in Chemistry, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her clinical training included private practice and a Veterans Affairs medical center, where she managed complex eye disease with ophthalmology and primary care teams.
Memberships & Recognition
Dr. Mahendar is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, the American Optometric Association, and the North Carolina Optometric Society. She has spent nearly a decade in eye care, including work as an optometric technician and as an EMT, and brings a calm, reassuring presence to every visit.
