Dr. Benjamin Kramer has been caring for patients since 2012, with a focus on pediatric eye care and the management of strabismus in children and adults. Families trust him for his compassionate approach, thorough evaluations, and specialized expertise in conditions that can impact a child’s visual development and quality of life.

Dr. Benjamin Kramer is a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus specialist with expertise in the full spectrum of eye conditions affecting infants, children, adolescents, and adults with eye misalignment.
Areas of expertise include:
- Full-spectrum pediatric eye care for infants, children, and adolescents
- Diagnosis and surgical management of strabismus (eye misalignment and double vision) across all ages
- Monitoring and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity for at-risk infants
- Evaluation and surgical correction of tear duct obstruction
- Pediatric cataract extraction and intraocular lens placement to restore clear vision for young patients
- Personalized eye care for patients with special needs
Dr. Kramer’s fellowship training at the Storm Eye Institute and his ongoing contributions to research and teaching make him one of Charlotte’s most trusted pediatric ophthalmologists.
Education & Training
Dr. Kramer earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before completing his Doctor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he served as Chief Resident.
He then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, SC. Dr. Kramer is board-certified in ophthalmology and has been recognized with the Robert Carter Award for Excellence in Research for his work in cataract investigation.
Memberships & Recognition
Dr. Kramer is an active member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He oversees the ophthalmology curriculum for Charlotte pediatric resident physicians, has published in leading ophthalmology journals, and has presented at national meetings.
Originally from Maryland, Dr. Kramer fell in love with the South while studying at UNC Chapel Hill. He and his wife Julie are raising two children in Charlotte and enjoy an active family life. Outside of work, he plays volleyball and golf.
