Horizon Eye Care has hired Steven J. Ryder, MD, as a staff ophthalmologist. Dr. Ryder brings to Horizon several specialties, including in the areas of retina/vitreous and diabetic eye disease. He will be based at Horizon’s Cotswold, Pineville and Waverly offices.

A graduate of Boston College, Dr. Ryder earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Ryder completed his internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, PA. He performed his ophthalmology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell, New York, NY, where he was recognized with the New York Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council Distinguished Housestaff Award. Dr. Ryder then completed his two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship in Miami, Florida’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, consistently ranked the No. 1 eye hospital in the country.
Dr. Ryder is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and National Eagle Scout Association. He has authored numerous scientific publications and textbook chapters in the field of ophthalmology.
