Horizon Eye Care has hired Hunter S. Stolldorf, MD, as a staff ophthalmologist. Dr. Stolldorf brings to Horizon a number of specialties, including cataract surgery, laser-assisted cataract surgery, LASIK surgery and medical and laser treatment of glaucoma. He will be based at Horizon’s Cotswold and Mooresville offices.
Lewis R. Gaskin, MD, president of the practice, says Dr. Stolldorf “will add to Horizon’s expertise in some of the world’s most technologically advanced eye treatments and help patients make informed decisions about their vision care so they live better, brighter lives. Horizon Eye Care is committed to providing patients with nationally renowned experts who know the latest in treatments, technology and techniques.”
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, Dr. Stolldorf earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He completed his internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in VA, aviation medicine training in Pensacola, FL, and an ophthalmology residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. In Pensacola, Dr. Stolldorf attended the Naval Aviation Medical Institute and earned his wings as a U.S. Navy flight surgeon.
Dr. Stolldorf started his military service at age 19 and, throughout his active duty deployments, visited all seven continents. He served as a flight surgeon for Patrol Squadron Sixteen, based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Florida and afterward was stationed for six years at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in NC. In Lejeune, he specialized in refractive surgical procedures that provided U.S. Marines with high definition, glasses-free vision. Dr. Stolldorf left the U.S. Navy at the rank of Commander.
