2015Horizon's Dr. Gerald Rosen performs the first Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty surgery in the Charlotte region.
In DMEK -- the most advanced corneal transplant technique for patients with Fuchs’ corneal dystrophy -- only the abnormal inner layer of the cornea is replaced, and all normal corneal tissue is preserved.
Charlotte magazine names two Horizon Eye Care physicians "Top Docs" in a poll of their peers: Dr. Frederick H.D. Weidman, II (5th time since 2010) and Dr. Joseph H. Krug, Jr. (3rd time since 2010).
2013Horizon named ‘Best Eye Care Group’ in the inaugural edition of Readers’ Choice Best of Charlotte, a special feature publication of The Charlotte Observer
2012Horizon Eye Care cataract surgeons become the first in the Charlotte region to perform laser-assisted cataract surgery with the LenSx femtosecond laser.
2011Horizon becomes the first practice to perform Canaloplasty surgery in the Charlotte region.
This minimally invasive procedure lowers pressure for glaucoma patients by enlarging the eye’s natural drainage system.
2010Dr. Joseph Biber performs the first artificial corneal transplant at Novant Health in Charlotte when he implants the Boston Type 1 Keratoprosthesis.
2009Sightpath Medical names Horizon Eye Care as a Top 25 Practice in the U.S. for continued surgical excellence, exceptional patient care, and demonstrating surgical expertise through a high volume of refractive surgeries, such as LASIK.
1997Horizon Eye Care is formed by a merger with Charlotte Eye Associates and Gaskin Eye Clinic
1985The doctors at what will become Horizon Eye Care are the first in Charlotte to begin performing corneal refractive surgery.
In what is now a widely accepted procedure, a laser is used to reshape the cornea and correct many cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Stratton, Wilkerson and Pressly, formed by Dave Stratton, Randy Wilkerson and Jim Pressly, becomes Charlotte Eye Associates.
1956Gaskin Eye Clinic formed by Reed Gaskin.
1947Dave Stratton began his practice in ophthalmology in Charlotte.
