Education: Dr. Gillis is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a graduate of Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences School of Medicine at Bethesda, MD. He completed his internship at Malcom Grow Air Force Medical Center and his residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, at Lackland AFB, Texas. He holds a clinical faculty position with the Uniformed Services University and has completed mini-fellowships in laser-refractive and LASIK surgery.
Professional Highlights: Dr. Gillis was the first ophthalmologist to perform LASIK surgery in Iredell County. He is certified to implant the new “bifocal” lenses in cataract surgery. Dr. Gillis is the past president of the Medical Staff at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He served in the US Air Force as Chief of Ophthalmology at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Special Interest: Dr Gillis’s areas of special interest include: LASIK and refractive surgery, treatment of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and “no stitch” cataract surgery.
