Education:  Dr. Rouse graduated magna cum laude with honors from Clark Atlanta University in 1996.  During his matriculation, he was selected as a MARC and Howard Hughes scholar. He studied the biodegradable effects of a blue-green algae ecosystem on aromatic hydrocarbons exploiting environmentally-compatible surfactants.  Additionally, he spent time at Yale University School of Medicine investigating a novel polypeptide drug delivery method that utilized a unique intracellular signally system.  At New York University School of Medicine, he coauthored a paper describing gene therapy in Krabbe’s Disease. 

 

With a B.S. in Biology, he went on to earn his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 2000.  After his first year at Emory, he received the University’s distinguished Medical Student Research Fellowship that initiated his interest in ophthalmology.  He evaluated the intracellular effects of a high-dose vitamin regimen for the treatment of Retinitis Pigmentosa. 

 

Subsequently, he interned at Evanston Northwestern Hospital in Evanston, Illinois before completing his residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Chicago.  After studying Vitreoretinal diseases and surgery for an additional two years at Northwestern, he coauthored a chapter on Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy (APMPPE), Serpiginous Choroiditis, and Relentless Placoid Choroiditis in the prestigious Ophthalmology text, Albert and Jacobiac (in press).  During this time, he also served as a clinical instructor, aiding residents didactically and surgically.

 

Special Interests:  Dr Rouse specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous.  These include diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, vascular abnormalities and macular diseases such as macular degeneration, macular holes, and macular pucker.  Dr Rouse also has a particular interest in infectious and non-infectious causes of uveitis.

 

Personal Background:  Dr. Rouse is a dedicated husband and father.  He and his wife, Kelley, have a daughter, Sydney.  He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and golfing.
