Education: Raised in Charlotte, Dr. Gaskin attended Myers Park High School and earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Wake Forest University. He received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, and then completed his internship at Northwestern University in Chicago. In 1981, he returned to Emory University where he completed his residency in Ophthalmology has served as chief resident of Ophthalmology from 1983-1984.
Professional Highlights: In addition to his work with patients at Horizon Eye Care, Dr. Gaskin previously served as team Ophthalmologist for the Carolina Panthers as well as the Charlotte Hornets, Chief of Ophthalmology for Carolina Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital, and past president for the N.C. Society to Prevent Blindness. He served as past director of Piedmont Eye Clinic, and fund-raiser for Discovery Place Science Museum and many local hospital capital funds campaigns. Dr. Gaskin continues to be involved in a number of non-profit organizations, including the Prevent Blindness NC.
Special Interests: LASIK laser surgery for near- or far-sightedness and no-suture cataract surgery remain Dr. Gaskin's foremost special interests.
Personal Background: Dr. Gaskin and his wife have five sons and a large black dog. He enjoys soccer, tennis, computers, water sports and camping.
