Dr. Syracuse initiated his practice at Horizon Eye Care with an exceptional educational background. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Hofstra University, he pursued a Master of Science degree at Roswell Park Cancer Institute at the Sate University of New York at Buffalo. He remained at the University of Buffalo to complete his medical degree. Prior to returning to the University of Buffalo to complete his residency in Ophthalmology, Dr. Syracuse spent his internship year at the University of Maryland Hospital with the department of internal medicine. While still a medical student, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the New York State Army National Guard and served as a General Medical Officer. He later attended the United States School of Aviation Medicine. Upon graduation, he served as the Western New York Regional Army Flight Surgeon for four years.
Professional Highlights:
Dr. Syracuse has conducted numerous ophthalmology lectures and presentation in New York and in North Carolina. While still a resident, he collaborated with Dr. Norman Weiss to develop a low vision device to assist those with severe peripheral field constrictions. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology. American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Mecklenburg Medical Society, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Special Interest:
Dr. Syracuse provides general and comprehensive eye care that includes LASIK surgery for near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism as well as no stitch cataract surgery. Personal Background: Dr. Syracuse is a native of Long Island, New York where his parents originally settled after moving to the United States from Sicily. He enjoys traveling to Italy to visit his family as well as skiing and water sports.
