Education: Dr. Daugherty graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University and a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison. While in medical school, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He next completed his internship and residency in general ophthalmology at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Scottish-Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta.
Professional Highlights: In addition to his work at Horizon Eye Care, Dr. Daugherty volunteers his expertise at the Lion's Club, providing free ophthalmology screening exams. He is a member of several national and state medical associations, and continues to expand his knowledge base through participation in pediatric ophthalmology conferences throughout the country.
Special Interest: Dr. Daugherty's interests center around general and pediatric ophthalmology, including state-of-the-art eye muscle surgery technologies. Some of the new procedures he offers include cataract extraction and intraocular lens placement in children, balloon catheterization for tear duct obstruction and laser surgery for premature infants with retinopathy of prematurity. Dr. Daugherty participated in many LASIK, glaucoma, and contact lens studies. He is free of glasses after having had LASIK preformed at Horizon Eye Care in 2000.
Personal Background: Dr. Daugherty and his wife Cynthia have two young daughters. For recreation Dr. Daugherty enjoys his family, gardening, and playing both his piano and guitar.
