Would I need to have
an allergy test for a Juvederm™ treatment?
No. Juvederm contains no animal products, and its main
ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is a substance naturally produced by the body.
That means the body recognizes it as something safe and doesn’t reject it.
What do Juvederm
injections feel like?
Any time an injection is given, there is a chance of some
discomfort. But we know the face is a sensitive area and we will use a numbing
cream on the areas to be treated, to minimize any possible discomfort. We give
it ten minutes or so to start working. The needle used is very thin, which also
reduces discomfort.
One of the secrets of giving painless injections is to press
the plunger very gradually. This makes the injected substance enter the tissue
slowly, giving less of a shock. Another secret is to have a very steady hand.
Our doctors have excellent injection techniques.
If you are having Juvederm treatments around the lips, we
will give you a local anesthetic in the inside of the lip, much as a dentist
does. Afterwards we will ice the area and for the rest of the day, you can ice
it if you feel the need.
Can Juvederm be
combined with any other injectable fillers?
Yes. If you have had any Restylane or Radiesse treatments,
for example, you can have a Juvederm treatment before the previous effects have
completely worn off. You could also have Botox, for instance, as a treatment
for frown lines, and Juvederm for lip wrinkles.
What is Juvederm used
for?
Juvederm is an excellent way to fill in lines:
- Smile lines at the sides of the mouth
- Frown lines (glabellar lines)
- Marionette lines (nasolabial folds)
- Tiny lines all around the lips
It can also help with dark circles below the eyes, by filling in the small hollow beneath the lower eyelid. This is sometimes called a Non Surgical Eye Lift.
Does Juvederm cause
bumps like some other injectable fillers?
No, it dissolves and settles evenly without any lumpiness.
It does not stretch the skin, so that after the treatment wears off, the area
will look the same as it did before your Juvederm treatment. There will be no
extra wrinkles or lines. There’ll also be no Juvederm left in the body, as it
will be excreted and will leave no trace of itself behind. All this is true of Restylane
too.
