Your procedure will be performed at the Horizon Eye Care Laser Center. Please plan to arrive forty-five minutes prior to your scheduled treatment time.

LASIK Pre-operative Instructions

• You must be out of soft contact lenses two weeks prior to your laser treatment.
• You must be out of hard or gas permeable contact lenses three weeks prior to your laser treatment.
• Do not wear any makeup or hair spray the day of your treatment. Be sure to clean lids, lashes and face. All eye makeup needs to be completely removed.
• Make arrangements for someone to drive you to and from the laser center. You can plan on being at Horizon Eye Care for approximately 1-2 hours. In consideration for other surgical patients, please make childcare arrangements.
• You may eat a light snack prior to arriving at Horizon Eye Care.
• Please have all financial matters completed upon arrival the day of your treatment.

The Procedure Throughout the LASIK procedure, you are awake. The doctor first gives you a topical anesthetic to numb your eyes so that you are comfortable during the entire procedure. You are lying flat on a reclining chair and are asked to focus on a red flashing light.   Your eyelid is held open with a special instrument called an eye-retractor. The procedure begins by creating a hinged protective flap of corneal tissue. The excimer laser reshapes this newly exposed layer of the cornea. Once this surface of the cornea has been reduced by the exact amount necessary, the protective flap is then repositioned to its original position.  Therefore, the shape of the cornea is corrected under the surface. This entire procedure generally takes just a few minutes.  Additionally, the procedure involves minimal discomfort and requires only topical anesthesia (eye drops).   After the procedure, you will leave with an eye shield and eye drops to help your eye heal. Your vision may be a little blurry for a few days. But generally, most patients return to work within 48 hours.

 

• Please do not shower prior to seeing the physician the next day unless instructed otherwise.
• You can return to normal activity, including work and exercise, after 48 hours, unless otherwise instructed by your physician. Avoid swimming, gardening, and eye makeup for at least three days.
• It is important to return for your postoperative appointments after your treatment.
