Time Warner Telecom
Delivers Metro Ethernet and Collocation Services to Horizon Eye Care
--Supports imaging and patient record applications
--Provides hardened facility protection for business continuity and
disaster recovery
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—February 2, 2006—Time Warner Telecom Inc., (NASDAQ:
TWTC), a leading provider of managed voice and data networking
solutions for businesses, today announced the installation of metro
Ethernet services to Horizon Eye Care’s five metro area facilities. The
company is a full service provider of eye care services, including
laser vision correction services, throughout the Charlotte metro area.
“We chose Time Warner Telecom because they clearly delivered the best
value.” said Rod Roeser, chief executive officer for Horizon Eye Care
in Charlotte. “Time Warner Telecom’s metro Ethernet solution has
enhanced our ability to run this medical practice more efficiently.
Metro Ethernet gives us the capacity and scalability we will need to
deploy new ophthalmology imaging, electronic medical record and voice
over IP (VoIP) applications.”
Before this service was installed, Horizon Eye Care employees would
create a DVD with a patient’s eye exam images and then courier them to
other locations. Time Warner Telecom’s 10 Mbps connectivity between
five clinics will replace an inefficient, time consuming process with
an “on-demand” electronic records transmission process.
This will allow
a patient to walk into any of the company’s facilities and have their
vision records available in that office.
“We are looking to leverage technology, specifically Time Warner
Telecom’s metro Ethernet services, to deliver exceptional service to
our patients,” added Roeser. “Both from a quality and administrative
standpoint, I believe these services will help us achieve that goal.”
Additionally, Horizon Eye Care contracted collocation services at the
Time Warner Telecom central office. Horizon Eye Care will migrate its
data center infrastructure to the hardened central office, while
maintaining a disaster recover environment at their headquarters
location.
“The central office supports business continuity protection by being on
the nearby airport’s electrical grid, backup generators and redundant
fiber connections,” explained Roeser. “Not only will our network be
much more stable and reliable. Should any of our satellite locations
go down, the other sites will not be affected.”
“Our high-capacity, highly-scalable metro Ethernet solution is well
received among health care providers that need to move a lot of data,”
said Bob Senn, vice president and general manager for Time Warner
Telecom in Charlotte. “Health care companies like Horizon Eye Care
require high-bandwidth infrastructure to deploy cutting-edge
applications needed to deliver the best patient care. Horizon Eye Care
also plans to use our fiber to deploy a cost-saving VoIP solution.”
