Botox for Medical and Cosmetic Purposes

You may not know that Botox was originally developed as a medical treatment.  The first approved uses for Botox injections were strabismus (crossed eyes) and blepharospasm (eyelid spasms), which came in 1989.  Later, it was approved to treat hemifacial and neck spasms.  In the process of using Botox to treat these spasms, doctors began to notice that Botox also had the effect of smoothing wrinkles, especially glabellar lines (deep wrinkles between the eyebrows).  They quickly began using Botox off-label for this purpose, and the maker of Botox, Allergan, applied for FDA approval to market for this use.  The cosmetic use of Botox was approved in 2002.

At Horizon Eye Care, we offer BOTOX for the treatment of eye and facial spasms as well as for cosmetic reasons.  Botox is not effective at treating all wrinkles, but it is unparalleled in its effectiveness at treating wrinkles in the forehead and at treating crow's feet.

If you are interested in receiving medical or cosmetic treatment with Botox, schedule a Botox appointment at Horizon Eye Care today.  Horizon Eye Care has three doctors who specialize in the use of botox for both cosmetic and medical purposes.  Dr. Mark Malton is at the University and Cotswold locations, Dr. Elizabeth Waller provides this service at our Pineville location, and Dr. Jack Gillis can take care of you at our Statesville and Mooresville office locations.
