Once you have been deemed a good candidate for a LASIK
procedure, here are some things you should do to prepare for surgery.
1. The day before your surgery, stop using:
Lotions and creams
Makeup
Perfumes
These products and the debris they can leave along your
eyelashes can increase the risk of eye infection during both surgery and
recovery. You may also be asked to scrub your eyelashes for a certain length of
time before your procedure to clear away built-up residue.
2. Arrange
for a ride home after the operation. You vision may still be blurred and the
pain medication will impair your ability to drive—so this step is essential.
Post-op
Your eyes may tear or water, and your vision may be hazy or
blurry—but don’t rub your eyes. This could dislodge the corneal flap and
require additional surgery to reposition it.
You may experience sensitivity to light and halos around
lights. Your eyes may also appear bloodshot. This is all normal and will
improve in a few days. You should plan on taking a few days off work or other
activities until these symptoms settle.
