CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 12, 2006?Horizon Eye Care is expanding its reach into Mooresville as part of its long-term strategy to increase the specialty care available to residents of the burgeoning north Charlotte market.

On Nov. 1, Iredell Eye South will merge into Horizon Eye Care, giving the eye care provider a 5,000-square-foot facility in Morrison Plantation and an established patient base in both Mooresville and Statesville.

?We have worked with Horizon Eye Care on a referral basis for quite a long time, and I?ve come to the conclusion that this is a group that I want my patients to be affiliated with,? said Dr. Steven K. Johnson, OD, of Iredell Eye South. ?The merger gives us access to the tremendous technological resources of Horizon Eye Care, as well as the high quality of subspecialty care.?

Dr. Johnson and Drs. John F. Gillis, MD, and Heather H. Day, OD, also of Iredell Eye South, will join Horizon Eye Care and will continue to serve their existing patients. Dr. Gillis will continue to perform surgery in Statesville as well as other locations, and Iredell Eye South?s seven employees will remain in their current positions.

In addition, Horizon Eye Care will hire up to four new employees to work in the Mooresville office.

?The merger with Iredell Eye South made strategic sense for us because the doctors are extremely talented and are like-minded with Horizon Eye Care?s doctors. Drs. Gillis, Day and Johnson are committed to state-of-the-art technology and methodology,? said Paul G. Galentine, MD, chairman of Horizon Eye Care.

Rodney Roeser, CEO of Horizon Eye Care, added: ?From a business standpoint, Mooresville is a good market to be in because the entire area is booming with new residents. The practice has the capacity to grow with the community.?

Roeser said the new office in Mooresville is part of a long-term strategy to provide people living in the area north of Charlotte subspecialty care and the treatment of retina, cornea and glaucoma disease. Horizon Eye Care recently hired two new doctors to work in the area who are specialists in those fields. Many patients needing subspecialty care cannot or choose not to travel to Charlotte for health care.

With the hiring of Dr. Strutha Rouse, who began work in the Lake Norman office in August, Horizon Eye Care became the first in the Lake Norman community to provide full-service retina subspecialty care. Horizon Eye Care also has hired Dr. Gerald Rosen, a cornea specialist, to serve patients in its University office. Dr. Rosen began working for Horizon Eye Care on Oct. 9.
