Child Eye Problems Often Arise During Homework

If your child has complained of headaches or if you have noticed them squinting and struggling through their homework, they may not be attempting to get out of doing their schoolwork.  For many children in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, poor vision can affect their ability to do their school work.

Vision problems like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism can all go undiagnosed for a while because your child may not mention any problems. Homework requires concentration and reading small text, which is why it can be difficult for children if they are unaware they are suffering from these eye problems.

If you’re worried that your child is suffering from eye problems while doing their homework, look for some of these eye problem signs and symptoms:

  • Squinting – Children often do this in an attempt to gain more focus on the text they’re reading or objects they’re looking at
  • Headaches – Often caused by squinting and straining, headaches can be caused by stressing the eyes and forcing them to see objects more clearly
  • Position of Books – If your child is holding books far from his/her face or too close to the face, he may be suffering from nearsightedness or farsightedness

The best thing you can do for your child is schedule routine eye exams at a local optometrist or ophthalmologist. If you live in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, please contact one of the experienced eye doctors at Horizon Eye Care at (704) 405-4123.
