| Choosing a LASIK Surgeon | |
|
Your successful LASIK result begins with your decision of which LASIK surgeon to see. The best LASIK surgeons do not offer LASIK to just anybody, because there are people who are poor candidates for the procedure. They screen their potential patients rigorously as a rule. There are some exceptions where an eye doctor will make a judgment call in a given case and with the patient’s agreement will perform a LASIK surgery on a less-than-perfect candidate. But typically a LASIK doctor is very careful not to perform LASIK on a poor candidate. Not only might your results be un-spectacular, but the surgeon’s reputation could suffer. Once you have a list of names (from friends, family, websites, phone book), study the eye surgeon’s education and qualifications. Most reputable LASIK surgeons have a website and there will be a page on the doctor’s background. Check that they are board-certified, meaning that they have passed the examination given by the American Board of Ophthalmology and are certified to practice in the U.S. Check the professional memberships and community involvement, because these things keep a surgeon in touch with peers, keep him or her up-to-date with technology and ideas, and make them known locally. For Your Consultation
Write down your questions and concerns and bring that list with you. Ask all your questions. You want to choose an eye surgeon who is willing to take time with you and who gives clear answers to your questions. The best eye doctors give a high priority to patient education. You also want an office which makes you feel welcome and comfortable because LASIK is surgery and when the day comes, you might feel nervous. By all means ask about cost and financing. Most eye surgeons work with third party financing companies and will do their best to help you arrange your procedure to fit well with your budget and schedule. Your consultation will include an eye exam at Horizon Eye Care. This is a thorough examination of your eye health, medical history, and vision status.
