Professional Highlights:

Dr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He held a variety of positions, including Head of the Glaucoma Service at Bethesda Naval Hospital from 1988- 1993. During that time he trained ophthalmology residents, conducted clinical research and treated various dignitaries including many members of Congress, the U.S. Supreme Court and President H.W. Bush. He also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at USUHS, the military medical school, where he taught eye trauma and cataract surgery courses to medical students and ophthalmology residents. Since moving to Charlotte in 1993, Dr. Smith’s primary interests have been the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataract surgery.
